What it does on your phone
Open the file
Open an .mpp, .mpt, .mpx, .xer or Project XML file from Files or your phone's storage, or share it to Onplana Schedule from Mail, Teams or any app that sends a file on.
Read the plan
A list of tasks or a timeline, with the links, the milestones and the critical path in red. Search the list, or narrow it to the critical tasks only.
Edit and save
Tap a task to change its name, start, finish, duration, percent complete and predecessors, or drag a bar on the timeline. Each change reschedules the linked tasks, and Undo takes it back. A file opened as .mpp saves as Project XML, so the original is never overwritten.
Update it on site
Show only this week or the next two weeks, and swipe a task to mark it done.
Share it
Send the plan as Project XML, the task table as CSV, or the chart as a PDF or picture, to Mail, Teams, Messages or Files.
Publish and invite
Publish a copy to a free Onplana workspace (2 projects, 5 members) and invite your team from the phone. They open it in a browser.
Check its quality
Run the DCMA 14-point checks on the phone and see the tasks behind each finding, or send a copy for the free health check report.
Light or dark
Settings > Appearance follows your phone, or keeps the app light or dark.
Project XML opens on your phone. Every other file, an .mpp included, is converted on Onplana's servers, and the uploaded copy is deleted within 3 days, and removed from backups 7 days after that. The app asks before it converts or checks a file.
How to open an MPP file on a phone
- Open the file. Tap Open a file and choose it, or share an .mpp attachment from Mail, Teams or Files to Onplana Schedule.
- Allow the conversion. A Project XML file opens on the phone. For an .mpp the app names the file and asks before it sends a copy to be converted.
- Read and edit the plan. Switch between the list and the timeline, show the critical tasks only, and tap a task to edit it. Save, or share the plan as Project XML, CSV, PDF or picture.

Frequently asked questions
Can I open an .mpp file on an iPhone or an Android phone?
Yes, with Onplana Schedule, a free app for iPhone and iPad and for Android phones and tablets. It opens Microsoft Project .mpp files without Microsoft Project, and also Project XML and Primavera P6 .xer. The phone app is on its way to the stores; until it is there, the same app is a free download for Windows and Mac.
Is it free?
Yes. The app is free to download and free to use, editing and saving included, and there is nothing to buy in the app. Publishing a copy creates a free Onplana workspace (2 projects, 5 members). Signed in to a workspace on the Professional plan or above, the phone adds Set baseline and Move project.
Is my file uploaded?
A Microsoft Project XML file opens on your phone and is uploaded only if you run a health check on it or publish a copy. Every other file, an .mpp included, is converted on Onplana's servers, and the uploaded copy is deleted within 3 days, and removed from backups 7 days after that. The app asks before it converts or checks a file, each time until you tell it to stop.
Can I open an .mpp attachment from Mail or Teams?
Yes. Share the attachment to Onplana Schedule, or choose it in Open In. On an iPhone a file sent from another app opens as a copy, so Save asks where to keep your edited plan and the attachment is left as it was.
Can I edit the plan and send it back?
Yes. Edit tasks, dates, durations, percent complete and links on the phone, then save. A file opened as .mpp saves as Project XML, which Microsoft Project opens. Share sends the plan as Project XML, the task table as CSV, or the chart as a PDF or picture.
What about a tablet?
On an iPad or an Android tablet the app shows the grid beside the Gantt chart, the screen the desktop app has, with the Resource usage view.
Is there a dark mode?
Yes. Settings > Appearance offers Match the system, Light or Dark.
