Bring the plan in.
Take it back out whenever you want.

Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, ProjectLibre, GanttProject, Excel and CSV come in with their dependencies, constraints, resources, costs and baseline. Any project goes back out as Project XML that Microsoft Project opens.

One upload for every format. The wizard says what comes across before anything is created.

Bring it in

Whatever the plan lives in today

One upload takes the files, up to 50 MB each. Planner and Project for the web come across through a Microsoft sign-in.

All plans

Microsoft Project files

An .mpp from Project 2007 to 2024, a Project XML (MSPDI) file or an .mpx, up to 50 MB. Onplana reads the format from the file itself.

All plans

Primavera P6, ProjectLibre and GanttProject

A P6 .xer, a ProjectLibre .pod or a GanttProject .gan goes through the same upload. A P6 file brings no baseline.

All plans

Excel and CSV work breakdowns

Keep the hierarchy the spreadsheet already has, from outline levels, WBS codes or indentation. A sheet that is not a plan is caught before anything is created.

All plans

Microsoft Planner and Project for the web

Sign in with your Microsoft account and pull a Planner plan, or a Project for the web (Premium) plan, straight into a project.

All plans

Spreadsheets into lists

Bring a CSV or Excel file into a list, matched to its columns or as new ones. Undo it within 24 hours; rows you have edited since are kept.

What comes across

Nothing stranded, and the gaps named

The scheduling logic survives the move. What does not is said here, before you commit, rather than found later.

Comes across

  • Tasks and their outline, dates, durations, percent complete and milestones.

  • Dependencies of all four types, with their lag, live on the critical path. How links and constraints survive

  • All eight constraint types, and deadlines.

  • Resources, matched to your members by email. A resource the file has no address for can be given one during the import and invited.

  • Planned, fixed and baseline costs, with planned cost rolled up into the project budget.

  • Into a new project, the baseline from an .mpp or Project XML file.

Does not, and what happens instead

  • Working calendars. The project uses your organization's working calendar, so set its working days and holidays first.

  • A baseline from a P6 file. Capture one after the import.

  • A new baseline when you add a file to a project you already have. Its tasks keep their baseline dates.

After Project Online

Project Online is retired. The files you exported still import.

Microsoft retired Project Online on 30 September 2026. The .mpp and Project XML files you exported before the shutdown come in through the same upload, and the OData feed lets a Power BI report built on Project Online be pointed at Onplana instead of rebuilt.

Moving a whole Project Online estate

Take it back out

Your plan is never locked in

Hand a programme back to a client still on Microsoft Project, print the chart, or keep your reports running.

All plans

Back to Microsoft Project

Export any project as Project XML, which Microsoft Project opens. Dates are fixed in the file, so Project uses its own calendar if you reschedule there.

All plans

Excel and a printable Gantt

The task list as an Excel workbook, or the Gantt chart as a paginated PDF or one PNG, with the bars, milestones, dependency arrows and critical path.

All plans

Power BI and Excel reports

A read-only OData feed under Project Online's own ProjectData names, so a report built on Project Online is re-pointed rather than rebuilt. Columns Onplana does not have are the mapping left to do.

Questions before a move

Does the baseline come across?

Imported into a new project, an .mpp or Project XML file brings its baseline, so variance shows from the first day. Added to a project you already have, tasks keep their baseline dates but no new baseline is created. A Primavera P6 file brings no baseline; capture one after the import.

Do working calendars come across?

No. The imported project uses your organization's working calendar, so check its working days and holidays before you rely on the dates the schedule recalculates.

Can I get a plan back into Microsoft Project?

Yes. Export any project as Project XML, which Microsoft Project opens. The dates are fixed in the file, so Project applies its own calendar if you reschedule there. There is no plan limit on the export.

Which plan do I need?

File import is on every plan, including Free. The OData feed for Power BI is on every plan, including Free. Importing from Planner or Project for the web, and every export on this page, has no plan limit.

I only have the .mpp, not Microsoft Project. Can I open it?

Yes. The online MPP viewer opens it in a browser, and Onplana Schedule is a free desktop app for Windows and Mac that opens and edits Microsoft Project files without an account. Neither needs a Microsoft Project licence.

Move the plan, keep the logic.

Upload the file, check what came across, and invite the people on it.
