Prompt library

Prompts that run your projects from an AI assistant

30 sentences to type into ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini CLI or Microsoft 365 Copilot once Onplana is connected. Each one ends in a real result in your workspace: a project, a report, a risk, an answer from your live data.

Every prompt was run against a demo workspace before it was listed. Copy one, change the part in square brackets, and paste it into a chat where Onplana is connected.

Plan a project from a brief

Describe the work and get a real project back: tasks, dates, owners, links between tasks, milestones and a baseline.

  1. Plan an office move in Onplana. We need to confirm the new lease, book movers, cut over the IT network, take the furniture delivery and hand back the old keys, finishing by 18 December. Group the work into New site and IT.

What it does in Onplana: A new project with its epics, tasks and subtasks, a date on every task, you as the owner, and any risks you mention.

    instantiate_plan
  2. Turn this list into a project in Onplana called [name], with a task for each line and its due date: [paste your list]

What it does in Onplana: A project built from your list: one task per line, with the due dates and priorities it found.

    parse_pasted_scheduleinstantiate_plan
  3. Add a milestone called "[name]" on [date] to [project].

What it does in Onplana: A milestone on the project, with a link to it.

    create_milestone
  4. Assign "[task]" in [project] to [person] and tell me how loaded they are that week.

What it does in Onplana: The task assigned, plus that person's hours in the week the task falls in, against their capacity.

    assign_task
  5. Save a baseline of [project] called "Agreed plan".

What it does in Onplana: A baseline of every task's dates, to measure slippage against later.

Import and check an .mpp file

The connector cannot open or import a file. Import the .mpp in Onplana first (Import, in the sidebar), then ask about the project it made.

  1. Run a schedule health check on [imported project] and list the three worst problems.

What it does in Onplana: A 0 to 100 health score with the problems behind it: overdue, blocked and unassigned tasks, tasks stuck near done, budget and stale updates. It changes nothing.

    schedule_health_check
  2. Add the obvious schedule risks in [imported project] to its Risks tab.

What it does in Onplana: Risks on the Risks tab for overruns, overdue work, unassigned work and tasks stuck near done. Running it again adds no duplicates.

    auto_detect_import_risks
  3. Explain the critical path of [imported project] in plain words.

What it does in Onplana: A short explanation of which tasks set the end date, with their ids.

    critical_path_narrative
  4. Compare [imported project] with the baseline that came in the file and list the tasks that moved most.

What it does in Onplana: The project finish against the baseline, counts of delayed and on-time tasks, and the worst slippers in days.

The baseline comes in when you import an .mpp or Project XML file into a new project.

    list_baselinescompare_baseline
  5. Show me the plan for [imported project].

What it does in Onplana: Every task with its dates, status and owner. ChatGPT draws it as a timeline in the chat.

    get_plan

Run the weekly status

Write the report, see what changed, and update the work, without opening a spreadsheet.

  1. Write this week's status report for [project].

What it does in Onplana: A status report in the chat: progress, task counts, risks and recommendations. Nothing is sent or saved.

    generate_status_report
  2. What changed on [project] in the last 7 days, and what is blocking it?

What it does in Onplana: A summary with the key changes, risks, blockers and recommendations.

    summarize_project
  3. What is assigned to me, and which of it is overdue?

What it does in Onplana: Your tasks across projects, with due dates, flagged when overdue.

    list_my_tasks
  4. Write this week's status for [project] and post it as a comment on the project.

What it does in Onplana: A comment on the project carrying the status, where the team sees it.

    generate_status_reportcreate_comment
  5. Mark "[task]" in [project] as done.

What it does in Onplana: The task set to Done at 100 percent.

    update_task

Find what is late and why

Overdue and blocked work, the pace of the team, who is overloaded, and a request to move a date.

  1. What is overdue across all my projects?

What it does in Onplana: Every overdue task you can see, with its project, owner and days overdue.

    list_overdue
  2. Which tasks in [project] are blocked or overdue, and who owns them?

What it does in Onplana: The blocked and overdue tasks in the project, with their owners and dates.

    list_tasks
  3. Is the team on [project] finishing work faster or slower than over the last month?

What it does in Onplana: Tasks finished last week against the four-week average, week by week.

    get_project_velocity
  4. Is anyone on [project] overloaded? Suggest what to move, but change nothing yet.

What it does in Onplana: Who is over capacity and the moves that would fix it, as a preview that changes nothing.

    Professional plan and upresource_leveler_analyze
  5. Ask to move "[task]" in [project] to [new date], because [reason].

What it does in Onplana: A request to change the due date, waiting for a person to accept. The date moves only when they do.

    propose_deadline_extension

Manage risks and issues

Find risks, log the ones you already know about, and track issues to a resolution.

  1. What could go wrong on [project]? Add what you find to its Risks tab.

What it does in Onplana: AI-found risks saved on the Risks tab. A new scan replaces the previous scan's findings; risks a person added stay.

    Professional plan and upanalyze_project_risks
  2. Log a high schedule risk on [project]: [what might happen]. Mitigation: [what we will do].

What it does in Onplana: A risk on the Risks tab with its severity, category and mitigation.

    create_risk
  3. Log an issue on [project]: [what happened]. Severity high, owner [person].

What it does in Onplana: An issue in the Issue Log with its severity and owner.

    create_issue
  4. List the high and critical issues across my projects, most severe first.

What it does in Onplana: The issues at that severity across your projects, with status, owner and a link.

    list_issues
  5. Resolve the "[issue]" issue: [what fixed it].

What it does in Onplana: The issue marked Resolved, with the resolution recorded.

    resolve_issue

Report to a sponsor

The short version for the people who fund the work: a summary, earned value, the portfolio and the risks that matter.

Frequently asked questions

Do these prompts work on the Free plan?
Most do. The Onplana connector works on every plan, including Free. A prompt that needs a paid plan says so on its card: Professional plan and up, Business plan and up.
Can the assistant import my .mpp file?
No. The connector cannot open or import a file. Import the .mpp in Onplana first, from Import in the sidebar; the project it creates is then there for every prompt on this page, including the health check and the baseline comparison.
Does the assistant change anything without asking?
It does what the prompt asks, as you, with your permissions. Prompts that only read (the health check, the critical path, earned value, the overload preview) change nothing. A prompt that moves a due date creates a request a person accepts first.
Why is Microsoft 365 Copilot marked on only some prompts?
The Onplana agent in Microsoft 365 Copilot is built for your assigned work, overdue work, project summaries and updating tasks. The prompts marked for Copilot are those; the others need ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini CLI, which reach every Onplana tool.
How were the prompts tested?
Each one was run against a demo workspace through the Onplana MCP server that these assistants connect to, and the card says what it created or returned. A prompt whose tools did not produce the result was dropped rather than listed.
What do I change in a prompt?
The parts in square brackets: the project, task, person or date. Use the names you see in Onplana, so the assistant can find the right project or task.
